Sedona Marathon 2017 – the results are in and the city wins!!
While a man from Tempe Arizona won the 12th Annual Sedona Marathon, the real winner the depending on how you look at it might have been the city of Sedona.
Sedona Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jennifer Wesselhoff, who also serves as race director, said an estimated $3.2 million was spent in Sedona the week of the race. A record number of runners participated in the 12th annual Sedona Marathon Event on Saturday Feb. 4, according to organizers. The Sedona Marathon is already counting down the days to next years event.
So who are these visitors that flood into Sedona every February for twelve years now. A recent survey can tell us the following, that 84 percent of runners were from out of town with 24 percent driving here on the day of the race, another 24 percent staying one night while just over 50 percent stayed two nights or more. In addition, 85 percent of those competing brought at least one person with them. Aside from the race, 76 percent of the respondents said they dined out, 42 percent shopped in local stores while 40 percent said they hiked or biked while here.
Some 3,093 participants ran either the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon distances, according to the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau, which handles the event.
