Thank you to all that participated in the 2016 Oak Creek cleanup at Red Rock Crossing – Sedona Village Business Association & Oak Creek Watershed Council
The Labor Day cleanup of Oak Creek at Red Rock Crossing was a success with members of both the Oak Creek Watershed Council and Sedona Village Business Association participating in a 3 hour cleanup of Oak Creek which began at Red Rock Crossing and finished at what we locals call Buddha Beach. During this time volunteers picked up approximately 21lbs of garbage including glass and recycling as measured by the Oak Creek Watershed Council. The Sedona Village Business Association which represents business’s in the Village of Oak Creek portion of Sedona enjoyed the opportunity to help protect this vital resource especially on a holiday weekend when so many visitors are experiencing Oak creek. The Sedona Village Business Association looks forward to working with the Oak Creek Watershed council again in the future!
Oak Creek, a tributary of the Verde River, flows along the bottom of the canyon, and is one of the few perennial streams in the high desert region of northern Arizona. Oak Creek is largely responsible for carving the modern Oak Creek Canyon, although movement along the Oak Creek Fault, a 30-mile (48 km) long north–south normal fault line, is thought to have played a role as well.
Below Sedona, Oak Creek enters more open country. It meanders past the communities of Page Springs and Cornville, and reaches its confluence with the Verde River about 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Cottonwood. Wikipedia
